The decision

Choose the harbor bank first. Central, Admiralty and Wan Chai favor island-side dining or meetings; Tsim Sha Tsui favors Kowloon waterfront plans. West Kowloon is a distinct high-rise base around Kowloon Station, not another name for Tsim Sha Tsui. A trip repeatedly crossing the harbor may benefit more from the right bank than a higher room category.

How to compare

Choose the neighborhood by the journeys you will repeat, then compare hotels within that base. Paying more for a room does not remove an inconvenient daily route.

Group Hong Kong Island and Kowloon activities to reduce repeated crossings. Check MTR station exits and any uphill sections between the station and your hotel; short distances can still require effort.

Before committing

Write down your three fixed appointments or sights, the arrival point and the departure point. Compare two bases against all five pins. Eliminate a hotel when its location makes your most frequent journey harder, even if its photographs are appealing. Keep a second choice in the same area so a change in room price does not force you to redesign the trip.
