The decision

Downtown favors monument and meeting routes; Georgetown favors neighborhood time; The Wharf favors the southwest waterfront. West End and Dupont Circle are useful alternatives with different Metro access. A Georgetown address and a West End address are not interchangeable, even when both hotels are marketed with the same neighborhood association.

How to compare

Choose the neighborhood by the journeys you will repeat, then compare hotels within that base. Paying more for a room does not remove an inconvenient daily route.

The United States capital is Washington, D.C., not Washington State. Compare Georgetown, central museums and The Wharf before booking.

Before committing

Write down your three fixed appointments or sights, the arrival point and the departure point. Compare two bases against all five pins. Eliminate a hotel when its location makes your most frequent journey harder, even if its photographs are appealing. Keep a second choice in the same area so a change in room price does not force you to redesign the trip.

Compare areas

Plan by neighborhood, not just by hotel.
